Leinenkugel's Safe From MillerCoors Sales Ban

MillerCoorsbizWatch has lost branding licenses for dozens of its beers as a result of the state government shutdown, and may be forced to pull them from shelves in Minnesota. But popular regional brew Leinenkugel's is still legal.A Leinenkugel's spokesperson told The Minneapolis Star Tribune that beer's branding license is handled separately, and is good until later this year.Leinenkugel's is made at MillerCoors' Jacon Leinenkugel Brewing Co. in Chippewa Falls, about 80 miles east of St. Paul.MillerCoors has said it had received a letter informing it that its branding licenses for beers such as Coors Light, Miller Lite and Blue Moon had not been renewed before the state government shut down.A MillerCoors spokesman said that the company actually paid its branding fees two weeks before the shutdown, but paid too much and had to write a second check. That apparently delayed the process for renewing the three-year licenses."We followed all state laws", said Julian Green. "We have 39 brands at stake here in one of the most important markets in the country during one of the most important seasons. … We take this very seriously".MillerCoors plans to dispute the state's move, though a Minnesota Department of Public Safety official told the Star Tribune that the company would have to stop selling the products immediately.
