A-B Seeks to Trademark Airport Codes; Draftmark Line Grows

ST. LOUIS • Attorneys for Anheuser-Busch InBev have filed federal trademark applications for "STL," "ORD," "MCI" and about 40 other three-letter U.S. airport codes.
Besides airports in St. Louis, Chicago and Kansas City, the marks include many of the nation's busiest hubs, including LAX (Los Angeles), SFO (San Francisco), MIA (Miami), BOS (Boston) and LGA (New York LaGuardia), as first reported by Craft Business Daily, a subscription-only trade publication.
It's unclear what the brewery plans to do with the airport code trademarks. Each application carries a $275 filing fee, putting A-B's investment about $12,000 so far. The government is processing the applications and by early August will assign attorneys to review them.

http://www.stltoday.com/entertainment/dining/bars-and-clubs-other/hip-hops/56d542ae-b658-11e1-adb0-001a4bcf6878.html
