|Highland Oatmeal Porter|
|A unique Highland creation, this robust beer is black in color, very malty with hints of chocolate-roasted flavor and a well balanced hop character. ABV 5.9%|

Appearance: Very dark reddish brown, almost black. Forms a puffy 2" inch head that dissipates slowly leaving significant lacing.
Aroma: roasted and smoked grains, coffee/chocolate, earthy hops
Mouthfeel: medium bodied and creamy (I assume this comes from oats). Slightly sticky.
Flavor: complex for a session ale. This porter is robust with flavors of creamy oats, bitterness of chocolate and coffee, and an earthy hop bite, I noticed a definite smokiness that I do not remember in previous tastings (I have been drinking this for 3-4 years).
Overall: A highly ranked porter, Highland's Oatmeal Porter well deserves its accolades. My only disappointment is that either my palate has changed some or they have altered the recipe -- I do not remember such a smokey aroma and taste in previous years. Because I don't tend to enjoy smokey beers, my grade is lower for this tasting than it would have been in previous tastings.
