My first. Haven’t tried too many beers from France, figured I give this one a try. Cost $3.99
I’m not too familiar with the style of this ale, which is a Bière de Garde.
Serving Type: A beautiful 1 pt. 9.4 oz bottle with the old style flip top (see photo).
It was bottled on 07-28-11
It opened with a nice pop! and some smoke and poured a hazy dark orange with a nice fluffy tan head that left thick lacing in my glass. Smell is very ripe citrus, spices, malts and bread. Mouthfeel is medium with thick carbonation. Entry is potent citrus, mainly orange and pineapple, some sweetness with thick malts across the sip. It finishes crisp and refreshing with some spices. Very Earthy and slightly bitter with no hop presence. This is a nice ale, good old world flavor, not refined but very complex and layered. A very good summer brew that almost wine like in taste and feel. I give it 3 ½ stars, Excellent.
