|Struise Pannepot Reserva|
|A Belgian Strong Ale, Brewed by De Struise Brouwers, Oostvleteren, Belgium. The Pannepot Reserva was an idea from my brew collegue Carlo who wanted to age Pannepot in genuine French oak barrels (barrique 225 liters). We have brewed 90HL at the end of 2005 which has been aging on oak ever since (14 months). 30 Hl was bottled Tuesday 8th May 2007. 60Hl has been transferred now to second hand calvados oak vessels and will be bottled again early autumn 2007, we will name that batch Pannepot Grand Reserva. As quality and results rule at Struise, the Reserva was already brewed again and aging on oak. 10% ABV.|
|Review||Appearance: Black on the brown/reddish side. Small dense light brown head, and very nice lasting laces.
Aroma / Smell: English liquorice, coffee, tar and wood. Lots of spices like anise(Pernod). Also some dark fruits.
Taste: Sweet and a little sour at first then warm and extremly spicy. Lots of liquorice, coffee and chocolate. Little malt and a little alcohol precense. Also hints of dark fruits and citrus.
Mouthfeel: Warm and sticky to the lips. Full body. Yet rather easy drinkable. Some alcohol. Dry and bittersweet flavor dominate the ending.
Overall: Awesome beer. Extremly complex, yet very well balanced. You would think of it as a snifter, but you can drink it pretty easy, if you dare!. The best strong ale I have yet tasted, I think. As close to 5 stars as a 4½ star can get. And let me quote eManu´s words; 'Top beer, this is a must!'.
