Have any of you guys tried Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier? It’s a smoked beer from Germany. I only had a sample of it months ago and I remember it was very robust and did have a smoky flavor. It was a very unique tasting beer. Anyway, I saw one bottle at a local grocery store recently, if it’s still there when I go back, I’ll get it. I added it to the Reviews today.

Well, I thought this one was good, but very different. It was also very strong. I'm hoping it's still at the store when I go back.

I've had it. i thought i was pretty one dimensional. had it been a porter or brown ale or some other kind of ale it might have been fine with that level of smokiness.

I do remember it being sort of flat with a lot of smokiness. I guess it's worth another try. I'll rate it too.

I can't believe it...somebody bought my beer. I thought for sure it would still be there, but no...it's gone. Oh well, I know of another store that has it. I'll have to get it there.

Well, I am going to reanimate this treat with my first post in this forum.
i read your posts yesterday so i went out and again bought the "märzen" (the bottom fermenting variant), there is also the wheat and and bock.

I think it's unique. It is hard to compare to any drink i know. Since the enormous smokiness kills any other flavor at first, it is hard to persuade most people i know to even take another sip

But it is very drinkable and the smoke redirects your bodies attention off the alcohol. So if you ever sit in Bamberg at Schlenkerla, you will surely get wasted because there is no apparent reason to stop after 5 beers.

For the beer nerd, there is of course the quality of uniqeness. But it is a very balanced beer, too. The malt is great, there is no sourness in the taste at all (which kills my taste for all bottom fermented beers) and has a rich, thick but refreshing body.

it is by the way great for steak sauce. But since it's about 4$ a bottle in the US that is not an option you would take, i guess
