Beer weeks celebrate the culture and community of craft beer, and give breweries and beer businesses the opportunity to connect with the fans. The Brewers Association, the national non-profit association on behalf of the majority of today's U.S. breweries, and publishers of CraftBeer.com, celebrate the culmination of these events each May with American Craft Beer Week (ACBW), The Mother of All Beer Weeks. American Craft Beer Week May 13-19, 2013 ACBW will be recognized May 13-19, 2013 and offers an exciting opportunity for small and independent craft brewers and the community of better beer retailers to celebrate the ever advancing beer culture here in the U.S. Plus, tens of thousands of today's beer beginners, beer enthusiasts, and hard core beer geeks make time to toast the week. 2012 Celebration The 2012 ACBW was celebrated by breweries and retailers in all 50 states. More than 35,000 beer lovers were part of the Facebook community with 3,500 taking the Craft Beer Champion Quiz. Without a doubt 2012, by far, was the largest celebration of ACBW, yet. It's really a community thing". - Fox & Friends, May 22, 2011 "This is the best time of year for local beer lovers". - Washington Post, May 17, 2011 History of American Craft Beer Week In 2006, the Brewers Association's American Beer Month, which was held in July, was changed into a weeklong effort in May; timed just before the busy summer beer season. Immediately, the week became the largest national effort focusing on American craft brewers, and remains so today. Since 2006, this national beer week has logged thousands of events and two U.S. Congress Resolutions have been passed supporting the goals and ideas of ACBW. Here is a small timeline to show the increase in interest and participation in ACBW. 2006: 124 breweries hosted events and House Resolution 753 was passed by the U.S. Congress 2007: 150 breweries hosted events 2008: 168 breweries hosted events and the Declaration of Beer Independence was introduced 2009: 212 breweries hosted more than 500 events 2010: 341 breweries hosted 621 events with recognition at multiple retailers in 45 states. House Resolution 1297 was passed by the U.S. Congress 2011: 1,521 events posted to the official ACBW calendar in 50 states. 2012: 1,368 events posted to the official ACBW calendar in 50 states. 2013: May 13-19, 2013 As we've mentioned, ACBW is just one of the many amazing beer weeks happening in the U.S. every year. Each of these events is a huge opportunity for today's small and independent craft brewers to rally the troops, talk about their community contributions, and recognize today's craft beer lovers who are responsible for the ever-advancing beer culture in America.
