Might as well start this appropriately after my recent tour of the oldest brewery in America, Yeungling. Not one of my favorite by any means but the tour of this authentic brewery is definitely interesting. Not much SS in this facility, but a ton of history. My sample selection at the conclusion were the porter and the Lord Chesterfield. First was very "yeasty" tasting. Chesterfield was better with more hops to hide the yeasty aftertaste. Still nothing to hype up.

More to be added from this trip to PA.

One of the things I look forward to when visiting PA is the much larger selection of beers to choose from than down here in LA. With the timing of this trip (Thanksgiving) I was looking forward to a chance at Troegs Mad Elf. I had heard a lot about it, but never had the opportunity to give it a shot. In a nutshell, it wasn't quite what I expected. Being a winter seasonal release, and at 11%, I was expecting a "heavy" ale. What I experienced was a much lighter, drinkable, enjoyable, tasty ale. The cherry taste is definitely present, but not overpowering and doesn't give it the typical "fruit beer" taste. If it wasn't so high in content, I would almost be willing to say it was borderline "session" style. However, after enjoying two of them, I can say my session would have to be a short one. I was lucky enough to find a 6-pack to bootleg back to LA to enjoy a couple more this season and save a couple to mature for next year.
