Budvar secures Budweiser trademark in Britain
PRAGUE (AP) -- A British court has rejected for good brewery Anheuser-Busch's request to block rival Budvar from selling its beer under the Budweiser trademark in the country, the latest ruling in a long legal battle over the brand name.
Britain's Supreme Court confirmed Tuesday that it rejected on Jan. 8 a request by Anheuser-Busch to overturn a ruling by the Court of Appeal. The Court of Appeal had said Budejovicky Budvar NP should keep the right to the name.

Anheuser-Busch Debuts Beck’s Sapphire Beer
The Beck's brand is getting bigger. Anheuser-Busch InBev is rolling out Beck's Sapphire, a new pilsner-style beer described as "smooth and distinctive." The Sapphire name is derived from the Saphir hops used in the brewing process which are developed, grown and sourced from Germany. In addition to the flagship Beck's brand, the new beer joins existing brand extensions, Beck's Premier Light, Beck's Dark and Beck's Oktoberfest. The latest Beck brand extension takes a page from the Bud playbook that worked so well with Bud Light Platinum last year. As an extension of the No. 1 selling beer in the country, Bud Light Platinum was the most successful new beer launch of the year. -Website Link-

Century-old fight for Budweiser name hits new snag
CESKE BUDEJOVICE, Czech Republic (AP) — They've been arguing about a name for 106 years. A small brewer in the Czech Republic and the world's biggest beer maker have been suing each other over the right to put the word Budweiser on their bottles in what has become a David versus Goliath corporate saga. A deal, it seems, will have to wait a bit longer because settlement talks between state-owned Budejovicky Budvar and Anheuser-Busch, a U.S. company now part of AB InBev, have collapsed, according to Budvar's director general, Jiri Bocek. -Website Link-

'World's Best Beer' Finally Available
Beer aficionados are pouncing at the rare opportunity to buy one of the world's most elusive and revered beers for the first - and perhaps only - time in the United States.
It is called Westvleteren XII, and it is often hailed as the "world's best beer" by reviewers and fans.
Westvleteren XII is produced by Trappist monks in Belgium and sold at the abbey of Saint Sixtus in the Belgian countryside. The beer can usually only be purchased by reservation at the abbey - and reservations are extremely hard to come by.

Whether It’s Craft Beer or ‘Craft’ Beer, It’s Looking More Like Big-Name Beer
When is a craft beer not a craft beer?
Oh, now you’ve stepped in it.
Whereas once you just had to look for longnecks with graphic labels and quirky names to distinguish your independent outfits from the big brewers, that easy distinction has become as cloudy as a pint of freshly drawn, locally brewed Hefeweizen in the past few years.
