Coopers named Telstra SA business of the year!

Coopers Brewery (Australia) has beaten 19 other companies to be named the 2008 Telstra South Australian Business of the Year. The family-owned firm also won the medium business award for companies with between 21 and 200 employees. Coopers has grown to become Australia's third-largest brewer. The company's interstate expansion has gained the brewer about 3.3% of the Australian beer market. -read more-

A comeback is brewing!

MILWAUKEE -- It's The Beer That Made Milwaukee Famous. Now Schlitz is making the city nostalgic. That beer with the old-time mystique is back on shelves in bottles of its original formula in the city where it was first brewed more than a century and a half ago. Schlitz was the top-selling beer for much of the first half of the 20th century. But recipe changes and a series of snafus made the beer -- in many a drinker's opinion -- undrinkable, turning what was once the world's most popular brew into little more than a joke. But after decades of dormancy, the beer is back. Schlitz's owner, Pabst Brewing Co., is recreating the old formula, using notes and interviews with old brew masters to concoct the Pilsner again. The maker of another nostalgic favorite, Pabst Blue Ribbon, it hopes baby boomers will reach for the drink of their youth. They also want to create a following among younger drinkers who want to know what grandma and grandpa drank. -read more-

Beer Spotlight - Atlantic Brewing Company Bar Harbor Real Ale

Bar Harbor Real Ale has become one of my favorites in the last year. It has a great malty taste and is very smooth. I don't see a lot of talk about it out there on the beer circuit, but I highly recommend it! Try it out if you get the chance and let us know what you think of it! Cheers, Tbim.

From Atlantic Brewing Company:

Bar Harbor Real Ale - A good, clean nutbrown ale with a malty body. This is our most popular ale due to its smooth and malty flavor. We use a mixture of pale, crystal and black malts in this one, and our primary hop is Target, though we also add some Whitbread Goldings Variation as well. The Real Ale is best fresh, so fresh in fact, that it's great right out of the bright tank. ABV 5.2%

Flying Dog releases The Hounds of Dogtoberfest!

Flying Dog - Dogtoberfest is our annual fall tribute to one of the greatest beer traditions in the entire world. Oktoberfest was started in 1810 by King Ludwig I of Bavaria to celebrate his marriage to Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. As with many wedding celebrations, Oktoberfest has swelled to an all-out rager. In its 175th year (some were lost to wars, etc.), Oktoberfest now hosts millions in its native Bavaria with millions more worldwide jumping on the bandwagon and pretending to be German. Who can turn down a great party? See St. Patrick's Day, Gonzofest and Cinco De Mayo for Exhibits B and C and D. Dogtoberfest is our award-winning, traditional German Marzen. Deep mahogany in color with an intriguing caramel finish, Dogtoberfest is brewed with 100% imported German ingredients for a true German flavor. Lederhosen and crazed Oompah Bands encouraged.

Beer Quote

Collection Reflection
"Linger here and live the past of armored storybooks amassed. Hear the tales of hunt and chase that brought them to this resting place. Each was once a frosty well that time has made a rusty shell with messages inscribed upon that give a glimpse of time that’s gone. Drained of all fermented brews they’re filled with only secret clues of lives they touched with liquid gold and hidden tales ne’er to be told. So ponder this peculiar sight partake of lager, dark or light and muse upon these iron tombs embodied in the Beer Can Room." - Carrie Nation (1846-1911)
